Sheriff’s Briefing Notes – July 20, 2020

Information contained in this report is from the previous 24 hours (Tuesday – Friday) or previous weekend (Monday).

• Deputies responded to:

o Felony Battery – District 2/Zone 7 – Deputies responded to an area near Publix located at 160 Mariner Boulevard. The suspect and the victim were initially involved in a verbal argument. The suspect proceeded to hit the victim numerous times as the victim’s wife attempted to intervene. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries – Arrest/Male – 2020-21273.

o Lewd or Lascivious/Battery on a Child under 12 – District 2/Zone 5 – Investigation active – 2020-21257.

o Suicidal/Barricaded Subject – District 1/Zone 7 – Deputies received information that a suicidal subject from Manatee County was in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express located at 30455 Cortez Boulevard. The individual refused to exit his vehicle. After a lengthy standoff, deputies were able to get the individual out of the vehicle when he asked for help following a medical episode – 2020-21291.

o Grand Theft Auto – District 1/Zone 3 – Deputies responded to the area of Sam C Road in reference to a suspicious person walking down the roadway. The deputy identified the individual as a suspect in a recent stolen vehicle investigation. The suspect was taken into custody. The deputy located a syringe hidden in the suspect’s hair. The suspect admitted to stealing the vehicle – Arrest/Female – 2020-21294.

o Death Investigation – District 1/Zone 1 – A man called 911 to report he found his girlfriend unresponsive. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The death does not appear suspicious – Investigation active – 2020-21354.

o Shooting – District 1/Zone 5 – Deputies responded to Twigg Street in reference to a shooting. Deputies located one individual with a wound to his leg. Numerous shell casing were found in the area. The victim refused to cooperate with deputies at the scene. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries – Investigation active – 2020-21391.

o Narcotics/Traffic Offense – District 1/Zone 5 – A deputy conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Wildwood Drive and East Avenue. The driver did not possess a valid driver’s license. Deputies located a black bag that contained marijuana, Methylphenidate, Buprenorphine, and Fentanyl. At the jail, deputies located methamphetamine hidden in his sock – Arrest/Male – 2020-21424.

o Agency Assist – District 2/Zone 4 – Deputies responded to a report of a possible sinkhole in the area of Deltona Boulevard and Bay Drive. Traffic was diverted around the sinkhole. The road department is working to repair the sinkhole – 2020-21446.

o Felony Domestic Battery – District 2/Zone 2 – A woman received text messages from her son’s girlfriend that her son had battered his girlfriend. The mother went to the house where she saw the victim and her injuries. Upon confronting her son, the suspect attacked his mother dislocating her shoulder. The suspect was located in the residence hiding under a bed – Arrest/Male – 2020-21497.
